The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) was introduced by the Government in 2014 and it is a grant that currently provides a 75% contribution to the purchase and installation of one electric charge point capped at £350 inclusive of VAT.

How do I know if I qualify for the EVHS grant?

The main requirement is that a person owns, leases or has ordered a qualifying* vehicle and has dedicated off-street parking at their property.  The grant is only for existing properties; it cannot be used for new-builds or properties that are not occupied.  For rented or leasehold properties, you must obtain permission from the necessary third party.

* You can check to see if your car is eligible by visiting the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles (OZEV) website here to see if it is listed.  The list includes battery-powered and plug-in electric cars, vans, taxis and motorcycles. If a model is not listed, it is not eligible for the grant.

As of 31st March 2022, the rules are changing and owners and residents of detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and bungalows will no longer be eligible.

The grant will instead be aimed at landlords of rental properties, and those living in leasehold flats.

What will an Electric Vehicle Charge-point cost me?

Although A Team Electrical Services can install an electric charge-point of your choice, we do recommend the Rolec WallPod EV HomeSmart which comes with a built-in TruePen PME fault detection, meaning that no earth electrode/rod is required and so there are no hidden additional costs.  It has been designed to provide the user with a simple, mobile phone interactive EV charging solution enabling you to control the charging activity using your mobile phone as well as being able to monitor/record all your charging activity, data and history.

We would recommend a 7.2kw (32a) charging speed and you can have a tethered lead or an untethered lead – the choice is yours.  From our experience, we would always recommend a tethered lead as it is not uncommon for the untethered lead to become loose from its charge-point, especially in bad weather/high winds when it could fall onto the ground and be easily damaged.

We are able to supply and install a Rolec Wallpod EV Homesmart with a 7.2kw (32a) charging speed, up to a 10-metre cable run for only £649 plus VAT (£999 plus VAT without the OZEV grant).
